Health Care for All--Santa Cruz Chapter

"Say YES to Health Care" Rally: 6/1/05 [press release]

Thanks to all your hard work--writing letters and making phone calls--we have sent a loud message to Senator to Santa Cruz Senator Joe Simitian: Santa Cruz emphatically supports single-payer health insurance for all Californians. How strong is the support? Recently Senator Simitian's aid told Health Care for All that SB-840--The California Health Insurance Reliability Act--is the number one issue that people from Santa Cruz contact his office about.

We just learned that Senator Simitian voted to support SB-840, which helped the bill pass the state senate! Because of you, Senator Simitian made the right choice. He  has joined the growing number of his colleagues, local organizations, elected officials, and constituents who are taking a stand in support of universal health care, and fighting the special interest pharmaceutical and insurance lobbyists who oppose it.

This is why Health Care for All is announcing a rally at his office this coming Wednesday (6/1/05). You are invited to join us. We will celebrate the bill's passing the Senate and we will thank Senator Simitian for listening to the people and taking a stand for health care.

CARPOOL

There will be carpools departing from both Aptos and Santa Cruz at 9:45am. If you have a car with space, bring it. The carpools will each meet at the park-and-ride lots in these towns:

Aptos Park-and-Ride: Resurrection Church parking lot, at the intersection of Soquel Drive and State Park Drive, opposite the Safeway Shopping Center.

Santa Cruz Park-and-Ride: Located Near Soquel Dr. and Highway 1

From the south: get off at the Soquel exit, you must veer to the LEFT onto Commercial Way.  You must get in the middle lane and drive straight across Soquel Dr. onto Paul Sweet Road (there is a big "EMS" training building on the right side of the intersection.)  IMMEDIATELY after going through the intersection, before Paul Sweet begins to veer to the right, you must turn LEFT through a double-wide gate into an area surrounded by a chain-link fence, which is the Park-and-Ride lot that's tucked away out of sight next to the freeway off-ramp.

From the north: you have to take the Soquel Dr. exit and circle around to the right, back over the freeway toward Dominican Hospital, moving to the left lane as you cross the freeway.  You must turn LEFT at the first street after the overpass onto Paul Sweet Road, and IMMEDIATELY after making the turn, before Paul Sweet begins to veer to the right, you must turn LEFT again through a double-wide gate into an area surrounded by a chain-link fence, which is the Park-and-Ride lot that's tucked away out of sight next to the freeway off-ramp.
